Surgery Revisions

Surgery Revisions / Conversion of Weight Loss Surgery

Weight loss surgery is safe and very successful, but some patients experience complications and/or do not achieve significant weight loss.  For these patients, a revision of the previous procedure may be an option.

Bariatric revisions are of particular interest to Dr. Ferrari, and he has performed hundreds of revisional surgeries.  He is an experienced, highly skilled surgeon who performs all revisions LAPAROSCOPICALLY, USING ADVANCED, MINIMALLY INVASIVE TECHNIQUES.

Not every patient is a candidate.  To determine if a revision is possible, Dr. Ferrari will order several tests (x-ray and/or endoscopic exam).  Revisional surgeries are usually successful in resolving complications and/or promoting additional weight loss, but results vary depending on the type of surgery.

Here is a list of possible laparoscopic revision/ conversion bariatric surgeries:

  • Lap-Band to Roux-en-Y
  • Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve
  • VBG (vertical banded gastroplasty) to Roux-en-Y
  • VBG to Gastric Sleeve (not recommended in most cases)
  • Roux-en-Y revision
  • Roux-en-Y reversal
  • Gastric Sleeve to Duodenal Switch
  • Lap-Band to Duodenal Switch
  • Roux-en-Y to Duodenal Switch (not recommended)
